In the best seller The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel  Society , the character Amelia while musing over the platitude ‘ Life goes on ‘, writes: ‘’Its death that goes on .”

Her story is being brought about in the limelight again, I can see people ( concerned people) sharing her story. Tweeting their pleas for justice and in one way or the other playing their part as responsible humans by spreading the word about ‘Sonali’s’ pitifully wretched conditions… With this post I intend to throw more light on her issue.. because there are many ‘untold’ and ‘unheard’ aspects to her story.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO SONALI MUKHERJEE

(A 27 year old young and outgoing woman of Dhanbad)

On April 22 2003, Tapas Mitra, Sanjay Paswan and Bhramdeo Hazra scaled the walls of her home and bathed her with ACID. That moment life came to a standstill of a lifetime for Sonali…

INJURIES : She suffered 72 % burns alone and as blinded in both the eyes. Her scalp was partially burnt while her right ear had to be removed. The right side of her face and neck were welded together and her nose and lips had to be regrafted. Her chest, stomach and legs were badly burnt.

WHAT SHE HAS TO SAY :

‘’ Every day in these past 10 years has been a living hell for me. We have knocked on all doors for justice, fought till bankrupt , screamed hoarse, but no avail. I have undergone22 surgeries since the attack. My face and neck need grafting. My ear also needs to be reconstructed. For the first 3 years after the attack I could not even speak. I was first taken to a private hospital at Bokaro, not only were we fleeced but my treatment was also blotched up. The doctors at Safdarjung told me that my ears could have been saved. Scissors had been used on my skin which is not advised in the case of an acid burn.’’

HER CULPRITS :

The accused went into hiding after the attack. Mitra, who was in his forties and Paswan who was married, were sentenced to 9 years imprisonment by the District Court while Hazra managed to escape a harsh punishment , thanks to the influential father of his. But soon even Mitra and Paswan moved to the High court for bail and were released.

‘’My father  was pressured to make an out of court settlement. When he refused, the threats started.’’ She says. They had to move to another village because of the menace.

____________ She now demands for euthanasia, for she has fought a long way in a battle which was long lost and now she does not have it in her to strive more.

YOU SHOULD KNOW :

India is among the handful of countries which has the highest statistics in terms of acid attack on women. The male perpetrators disfigure the female completely and wreck her from the soul in order to satisfy their anger, revenge, uncouth ego for WHATSOEVER reason. Its so easy to get hold of any corrosive chemical in India, these beasts do the needful and escape by the easiest means with the slightest efforts whilst the victims die a 100 deaths. Indian newspapers have reported 153 cases of acid attacks from January 2002 to October 2012.

WHAT ACID DOES?

At first contact acid feels like water, but within seconds it causes a burning sensation. If not washed off immediately with water, acid can melt away a victim’s skin and flesh, going as far as dissolving bones.

WHAT OUR LAWS DO ?

In South Asia , Bangladesh is the only nation which has a law specifically directed for acid attacks- The Acid Control Act , 2002. This fact explains more than half of the story!

In India, under misc articles and sections of the IPG, the punishment awarded to the culprit rangers from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of life imprisonment along with a fine of Rupees 10 L.  However , so far not many have been sentenced to life imprisonment and ‘’more than many’’ have been bailed out within a year. Icing on the cake- the unlicensed over-the-counter sale of acids perpetuate to glory!

Sigh ! This was but the story of one victim highlighted, there are 153 and more such unheard stories which have a similar storyline. Justice as never given to them, and each day these victims die numerous deaths. With a scarred face and a wounded soul, unheard and shunned by the people of power , whom we may address as the ‘’greedy good-doers’’, it is more than natural for these victims of cruel and harsh fate to GIVE UP. And now like Sonali, one by one many more victims will appeal for ‘’death’’ because there is not much that life can offer them..

FOOD FOR THOUGHT : The victim appeals for death while the culprit appeals for mercy and escape the punishment like a cake walk. The victim hides her face, ashamed of it while the culprits roam freely in the open with a hollow pride of revenge.. Such is our nation for the feminine, whether we commit the crime or not either ways we are guilty !

Poor Sonali…. She wanted to do a Ph.D and now she wants to die…

MERE SPECTATORS...then and now

With the passage of time, more than many of us have become partially oblivious of the NIRBHAYA RAPE CASE, one of the most brutal sexual assaults in the history of man-kind! The last update we heard was the 3 year long judicial custody ''awarded'' to the rapist who was supposedly a juvenile of 17 years of age.... NIRBHAYA who fought with ultimate bravery until the last breath, gathering all the nerve she had to pen down the name of the grisly rapists ho had brutally manhandled her to the zenith with a flickering hope that yes - one fine day , her wrong do=ers would get the rightful punishment for leaving her shunned, scarred, shattered on the cold delhi highway with a a battered vagina ( courtesy- the ROD ).. 
ell here we are 10 months after the henious mishap took place- The accused gets a mere 3 year luxury stay at a juvenile correction home on the account that he as a minor. Mind you not a 10 year old.. but a 17 year old minor ! My heart shrivels with guilt and misery as I imagine the lamenting soul of the victim... Her soul must be weeping bitterly in a far far land...
We hoped that her death would serve a NOBEL cause and would not go in vain and that the law makers would seize the oppurtunity to scare the maggots ho dare to rape ! But here we are BACK TO SQUARE...Its like indirectly passing a message to the potent rapists- ' Its ok if you rape a girl.. happens.. has always been happening... your safe '

Here is an article which was written on the 18th of december 2012 after the grisly Rape took place. This article as issued under our organisation LRON- LETS REVAMP OUR NATION. We circulated this information all over India and got an overwhelming response from the public. e ere more than gratified when the member of the Aam Admi Party personally contacted us 1) Mister Ashok Gautam 2) Mister Amit Janhit , and the headoffice of Mister Anna Hazare at RaleGaon Siddhi. Further we also got responses from local women empowerment units who later helped us to render justice to a minor rape victim in Sikkar Rajasthan.---- The followup of this rape case shall be given in the upcoming posts.

MERE SPECTATORS- FOR HOW LONG?

''God created woman out of the rib of man not to be trampled upon but to be held at par, at every face and walk of life''- as preached by our doctrines, dogmas and scriptures.

16th December 2012:: A used to be sassy, outgoing, independant lad of 23 lay nude with a battered vagina, an iron rod brutally inserted into her genital pore... gangraped by a brutal team of six barbarians who failed to take charge rather delibertely let their libido go hay-wire. As the tradition goes , should we once again question the girl's character and obscenity showcased by her that aroused vehemently the sexual urge of the vicious drooling wolves? Or should the pack of wolves be excused , putting the blame on Ttestosterone?

Tagged as the weaker and vulnurable section of the society, the girl stood up to free her male friend from the clutches of the hideous men who were assaulting him. In return these sick and uncouth egocentric men- the so called powerful section of the society, in order to satisfy their lust and venegance preyed upon her bare flesh one by one, thus enjoying their JOYRIDE.

The rape case, a matter of national concern now would have been yet another statistical record if it was not for the ''death-ly'' apparatus used- 'the rod' and 'the blades', thus very distinctly making the extreme  limits of inhumanity vivid and clear.

The unfortunate victim etched with scars on the mind, body and soul, with the will power so strong is still fighting to survive in a state of coma, shedding silent tears. Every struggling hearbeat of hers appeals for justice.

Delhi- having the largest population density in india- we bet a strolling thousand people must have sighted the girl whimpering and withering in excruciating agony. Not even a single soul cared to cover her shivering nude body eroded with bruises, cuts. scars. slashes and goosebumps, let alone taking her to the hospital!  Or perhaps, we shall correctly assume that those immobile predators were too busy taking pleasure of her naked body... and the fellow sisters of the fairer sex? What excuse have they to make regarding their MERE SPECULATION?

The case herein can be held parallel to that of Junku Feruta of Japan ( please google for detailed info) - her rapists are at the moment merrily celebrating the joy of life and enriching their trachea with the air of freedom.

If will seem surprising to none if the accused will be bailed out on the basis of ...who knows? Maybe the 2-FINGER RAPE TEST...which prevails blissfully in India to prove the alleged intercourse as a peaceful affair!

As the girls of today, women of tomorrow dwelling in India trembling with fear and gasping with astonishment, spine chilled and flabbergasted , visualizing these callous Ripley believe it or not instances, we are compelled to identify ourselves as mere objects of 'consumption' and 'reproduction'- to sum it all 'everything' yet 'piecesof nothing' striving for existence in this nasty nasty world of machos.

At this horrifying juncture, we are not demanding for the starts or the moon! We crave for safety and are hungry for security and are in the direst need of protection. A paltry one fourth of the cash being stuffed in swiss banks. one fourth and not a penny more, care to spend it for our safety measure.

A CONFESSION :: 

YES ! I HAVE BEEN RAPED- a confession by an Indian woman ( on behalf of all the Indian woman)

The caption ! yes! A fleeting majority of you must have smirked or shrugged when your retina perceived it. Lestways the word ‘rape’- the epitome of obscenity I presume?..did catch your rapt attention ..Did it not? OMG! WTFSHEESH—are our general reactions when we hear or read about traumatizing rape headlines making way into millions. The rotten lot may also comment dignantly –‘Oh! The girl , she was one character-less woman ! ‘Talk about compassion .

I am a staunch feminist and I do not hate men.Hating would be a thing too easy to do !! Oxymoronic much they say that’Rape flattens on the minds of men like maggots on a garbage dump’...Believing in a self thinking commodity I voiceferously disagree. Real men do not rape! Those gruesome, brutal lot who prey mercilessly on the bare flesh of the fairer sex ought to be categorized under a different tagline-BEASTS or MONSTERS perhaps! And I am making this point clear because at this juncture when matters of grave concern await our attention-a petty bicker between a man and a woman is the least that we can afford.

Every 20 minutes a girl is sexually harassed in India. The fumes of anger had not settled down after the Nirbhaya Delhi Gangrape Case and lo! Behold !-sprung up another ‘Guriya’ Rape case(only to name a few)..These heart-wrenching modes of torment would have been recklessly shoved  in the statistical records if not for the death-ly apparatus-rods, candles and bottle bits  used! Such is the extent to which the girl child is subjected to injustice in our nation!

Being a woman (now) I honestly fell caged, captivated and imprisoned in my own body. 64 years of Independence and down the lane ‘fear’ in every form is what the Indian woman has acquired.It is time-HIGH TIME! That I (on behalf of every Indian woman) confess to the world(dominated by the masculine) that I too am a rape victim and I get raped every single day....and I am afraid that this cycle will perpetuate until I breathe my very last.

‘Rape embodies sexuality as the culture defines it’- Let us now give rape a broader spectrum and accepts with humility that we are all victims . Common! We are the second most populous nation in the world..Every 6^th person in the world is an Indian-Talk about birth control..LOL!—we sure can appeal to alter one meaning of the Thesaurus!

Eve-teasing! Getting teased has now become a part and parcel of life for me. No! I am not a coward but how do you expect me to deal and fight back with more than 10 pigs in a single day? Sometimes harsh verbal comments tend to scar my dignity but then I console myself saying’Koi nahi hota hain ( It happens).. Is it actually supposed to happen?..Am I born just to listen to these remarks I know nothing about?

Many a times in a crowded place I find a hand struggling upto my breast or my butt without nobody witnessing it. The body touched was mine and I felt it , the guilt remains in my heart. Meekly my wounded heart whisphers a question to my conscience-‘Why are you ashamed? Shouldn’t they be ashamed who took undue advantage of your innocence?...I do not have an answer...

I walk across the street and get brutally assaulted-this time visually! Their eyes had a feast-Thanks to the tit buts of my naked flesh from here and there (wear a half sleeve Tee-your arms will serve the purpose of a buffet in India).However I try to give a stern look of disapproval-works sometimes! But mostly I am compelled to give up and look down at the ground.

Every time I travel through auto rikshaws-I catch the perverted drivers adjusting their mirrors to again catch a glimpse of my uncovered skin. Lecherous! They are!—Let alone the uncertainty of reaching my destination!

When you get raped you are sexually harassed and abused unlawfully without your permission and ultimately when the cannibals have quenched the thirst of their lust  you are dumped nude in some gutter !You loose your self esteem completely!That is the ultimate outcome!—The remarks, touches, comments, experiences mentioned above if cumulated and accurately mixed in proportion will amount to a 100 gangrapes!

So? What do we do now?-Adopt the lgal procedure and lodge an F.i.r ?Trust me  - the fat policeman with a moustache will laugh out loud at your face! Mind you ‘Justice for women does not exist in the legal system of India’. In our country Rape is the only crime where the victim becomes the accused and in reality it is she who must prove her good reputation, mental soundness, impeccable purity and sanctity! Truth is bitter.

Next? Protests!!! Revolutions!!Speaking for our undermined rights?? Hell no! You will be ‘lathi-charged’ anyways and if you are a girl the police man will not hesitate to slap you so hard that your ear will start to bleed (with reference to delhi guriya rape protests) and Lo! I am still fantasizing about justice!As of now the next time somebody asks you in a rapid fire round *ever sexually assaulted?*-Promptly reply-Yes! Obviously-I live in India you see*

THAT LADY ON THE STREET!

The sun shines to the best of its ability thus filling the prevailing atmosphere with mirth and gaiety. The city (Siliguri) of West Bengal yet again bustles up with the din of its noisy humdrum. The busy traffic single-mindedly whizzes past, the crowd runs a rat race towards something or nothing at all! Yet to utter dismay not one soul cares to halt, sensitize, feel and ponder about the lady who sits there all day and all night over the heap of stones staring at some distant vacant point.

Her attire and appearance would frighten you. She is donned with a considerable amount of criss-cross of wrinkles across her pallor. Her unkempt, grey keratin sways wildly in the strong breeze. If examined closely on can sight the colony of ‘scar copies scabies’ (lice) running helter-skelter over her forehead. Multiple layers of dirt and filth over her face-‘Does she even recall her original skin color?’-one can wonder! Round red pieces of glassware whish adorn her meek wrist jingle as she claps her hand at the sight of a school bus. ‘Could she have been educated in her past?’. The sacred-bangles! Are a clue that she might have been married and happy –once upon a good time !. She gets up, her torn and tattered attire showacases ‘unwilling obscenity’. As she tries to walk in vain , she is compelled to sit down again with a jerk, agonising in withering pain as she keeps her hand over her genital area. Sigh ! What could have been the cause the ‘excruciating’ pain?- A mere infection that could amount to a serious STD if not treated? Or a brutal/ many brutal sexual abuses that follow and haunt her every single night as she sits over her heap of stones unguarded and unprotected, her bare flesh serving as a prey to the vicious drooling wolves who cannot take charge of their libido and lust.

This was but – a plight of a single ‘mentally-ill, destitute woman who dwells under the night sky in a shady Indian street (Of Siliguri-West Bengal).Statistics show the possibility of more than 1,50,000 such women flourishing in the nooks and corners of our ‘indifferent’ nation.

About the lady mentioned above-flying and jocular rumours have it that some drunkards put over her face a mask of some Bollywood actor (because they were disgusted of her filthy face) and gangraped her!! When this true/untrue (nobody bothered to find out) news reached the people- a striking majority ‘laughed out loud’at the innovative idea of the bollywood mask! Has humanity lost all its essence? With the given factual description I attempt to spread awareness  about the deplorable and sporadic conditions of our nation (dipped in mordernization) among the public comprising of ‘you’ and ‘me’. Also, you may call it a request, reminder of duty or label me as a’harbinger’ of unwanted trouble but as a responsible youth of the nation I (On behalf of my organization L-RON. ) humbly put forward a pleato the local governing bodies and functioning NGOs to kindly look into this grave matter and take necessary steps for the rehabitiliation of the ‘mentally retarted-sexually abused-women-of Indian streets’.

·         Nationwide there are only 37 state run mental hospitals.

·         There are 3500 registered psychiatrists. (i.e. 3 per million)

·         Needed accommodation in rehabs (as concerned) is 1,00,000-available seats are 2000.

·         Currently 4 half way shelter homes are sanctioned by the Government-built none!

Mind baffling! Flabbergasting!—We know it but now it is not the time to lament over the spilt milk. It is ‘high time’ to bring about a necessary change in the way the things are functioning in our nation.

 So the next time you see a ‘lati’ (i.e. a mentally unfit person in the local dialect) instead of “ewwwww-ing” and passing lewd remarks, for a change let compassion overpower your soul. Feel her pain, imagine the horrid conditions through which she must have battled, try to look for the “lady” in her and when you have accomplished this strenuous task waste no time in spreading awareness about her wretched conditions( that is the most you can do at your level) so that the people in power exercise their powers for the welfare of these”children of a lesser god”

As Putlibai (father of Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi once said”If in your lifetime you succed in saving or improving a single person’s life your life is a success).
