The aftermath of rape.

This is a post to pick with the legal system of India which brutally mal-treats women as secondary citizens and denies the protection and respect which a lady needs allt hrough her life.Let us probe deeper into an issue which is VERY common in India...RAPES!.....How many times do find yourself gasping with horror and disbelief when every morning your eyes perceive the news girls being physically harrased ???

ACCORDING TO NCRB (Statistics for the year 2010)
*16373 women were raped during the year.
*45 women were raped everyday.
*44098 cases of sexual harrasment was reported during the year.
*121 women were sexually harrased everyday.
*1 woman is sexually harrased in every 12 minutes......

And we all are well accquainted with the fact the the rates are always double that what is showcasted. So now my dear friends you can well our plight!....Nevertheless here we are to calculate the AFTERMATH of rape.!...For this it is mandatory that you are familiar with the "2 finger test"-- A test so brutal and rash that it can be held at par with rape itself.

:::::::::  In India the two finger test is done to determine the virginity of a woman after she is raped. It involves the doctor inserting fingers in a rape victim's vagina to test its "laxity" and decide if she is habituated to sex.Defense lawyers often use this evidence to discredit the testimony of unmarried rape victims, who are then dismissed as *loose women*.! This test is based on the principle that the hymen sheath or the virgin knot is the sol indicator of virginity. .... At this juncture I am perplexed so as whether I should blush with emabarrasment or weep with shock at the ignorance level of our nation. Even a student who has studied biology until 10th standard can firmly affirm that the hymen sheath can be ruptured during streneous physical activities like dancing, horse riding, acobatics etc and it is certainly not the viable test for virginity.

Supreme Court of India has ruled that the results of a ‘finger test’ cannot be used against a woman, and that a rape survivor’s ‘habituation to sexual intercourse’ is immaterial, this ‘unscientific, inhuman and degrading’ test is still widely used in India.........Let me give you some real life instances of the poor ladies ( adapted from Femina)

Lily*, a 20-year-old graduate student from Manipur, was raped by an unidentified man in Delhi. The shell-shocked young woman shivers violently, as she describes the crime. But the ordeal, she says, didn’t end there. A few hours after she was raped, she had to undergo a medical examination, which she says, was “as awful as the rape itself” as it involved finger penetration of her anus. She talks about the torture post the traumatic rape.

“A few months ago, I was raped on the way home from work. I didn’t know the man. My family and a police team took me to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, for a medical examination. During the medical examination, the lady doctor inserted fingers into my anus and took vaginal swipes too. I was bleeding; I was in extreme pain and crying.”

“I had been raped after being thrown into a thorny bush and there were thorns embedded all over my body. Later, at the police station, Sector 23 Dwarka, my sister-in-law slowly extracted several thorns from the soles of my feet and my body, and clumps of hair from my head that the rapist had pulled out. I was beaten black and blue by him and couldn’t move my neck at all. He hit me hard several times on my head and face, but none of my injuries were examined.”

“Instead, I had to give my statement countless times to the police and to the doctor. The doctor refused to hand over the medical report to the police saying that until an FIR was lodged, he couldn’t do it. There was some confusion over the area jurisdiction as well. Then we drove to the site of the incident on an extremely foggy night and finally, after hours, managed to locate the spot. After we found evidence and my mobile phone, which the man had snatched and flung, the police report was finally lodged. We went to the hospital after that to get the medico-legal certificate. My family had to get private medical treatment for my injuries and now they are taking me to a counsellor at St Stephen’s hospital.”

—Lily *, 20, Delhi

*NAMES CHANGED ON REQUEST

A victim's friend expressed her misery:: (pertaining to 2 finger test)
" A nurse, Radhika and I were present int he room. The nurse asked Radhika to remove her salwar and sleep on the examination table. The nurse spread the girl's legs and called the doctor in. Two doctors were present during the examination (both male). The samples were collected by a doctor who was wearing gloves. He examined the vulva and took the vulval swab. Then he spread the labia to examine the external opening of the vagina. He found fresh tears and asked the other doctor to note them. He then inserted his two fingers inside he vaginal opening and noted that the two fingers were going in easily. The girl twitched in pain. He wiped his hands on a few slides possibly to make a smear. No other examination was done on her body even though she had injuries all over."
 Sigh!...........

Well.........I just wanted you to know that living as a girl aint easy in this nasty world of machos out there...

A dream so sinful?

Fourteen years ago when the lady gave her first cry....Little did she know that she was born in bondages, handcuffed and stringed n the yarn of the dictatorship of the elderly and the powerful--The Talibs..!...She was a rare gem who chose to fight for her right in her own gentle way i.e by scraping a pen on a soft piece paper , she wrote about the numermous atrocities inflicted on to her and the thousands of other girls of her age.....she refused to keep mum...Was that the biggest mistake of her life?....A blunder so big that even now as you are reading this she is fighting for her life.....She was blogger just like you and me....A young journalist who used to write for BBC Urdu!..She had a dream- A dream to see educated and independant Afghani women, Was it a dream so sinful?....
One grim day as she sat chatting merrily in her school bus, the life changed Drastically....She was shot, two bullets in her head...Only because she had dreamt a dream, and was working in her own little way to realize that dream, she a tiny woman working for the cause of a woman....The Talibs said that the massacre was a lesson to every Afghani girl who dared to dream of education and secularism!..Hinna Khan, another girl from Afghanistan has very recently received a threat from the "men".....and the day is not long when we shall be praying for her speedy recovery too...!..
So what did you decide?....To shun the voice of your conscience and kepp mum.....turn a deaf ear...be cause you fear that one fine day even you will be shot?.....NO!.....It is high time that women and girls, you and me realized that NOBODY GIVES YOU POWER YOU JUST TAKE IT......The Malala story shares an eerie resemblance with Annie Frank ...Then it was Annie, now it Malala....Then it was Hitler, now its the talibs...Then it was a diary....Now its her blog....Then it was leukemia....this time its her sex-the feminine gender!

The prime suspect !

DO OFFER YOUR PRAYERS FOR HER SPEEDY RECOVERY......I WOULD BE OBLIGED...

AMEN!

Visit to Natt Busty...

A smile so adorable- Is she aware of the dark future that awaits to captvate her ?....
..

I am a Femocrat- and proud to be one :) !....

..A team of 16 enthusiastic students in collaberation with a local NGO  along with our very supportive Principal ma'am  and our psychology teacher Preetika ma'am, we went for a visit to Natt busty in Pilani - a very small village which is the abode of only 30 families. We had prepared an awareness programme for the villagers- to spread awareness about issues like child marriages, prostituion and dowry system which was flourishing in that  village.
The village looked like any other remote village of India....dry, arid, light-less and knowledge-less, yet this chunk of land had amazing dwellers who by birth took up begging as a profession- the men I am talking about, the girls were either voluntarily sent for prostitution ( Though now thanks to the NGO the prostitution and begging business has stopped almost completely),or they are married off!...While we were at the village a lady asked me 'How old are you?" ( In hindi )..."17" said I....she was FLABBERGASTED "Aap abhi bhi kuwari ho?" i.e.- Are you still a spinster she interrogated.......Sigh!...Every girl in that village above 13 was married....and Oh yes!..That reminds me that somewhere in a rulebook called THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA- It is mentioned that the marriagable age of a girl is 18 years.! How ironical!
The girls there had their pretty faces hidden behind veils. When someone asked them to show their faces, a girl of about 15 replied in a meek voice " Aadmi marega".----Do the hell with aadmi!....Another girl started wailing in front of us "I am getting married nest month, but I don't want to".....We were helpless because as students we were not in the position to stop a marriage that was set to happen that too in a staunch village of Rajasthan.....A tiny girl from the crowd when asked said that she wanted to become a police officer later in life, another girl wanted to become a Doctor.... My heart was filled with pride and sorrow at that moment. I was proud because these young ladies DARED TO DREAM...such big dreams..I was scared because partly I was sure that they would probably get married in a year or two and their dreams would just become mere mirages in the desert .........
This was only a sneak peek at one village of India -- there are 90000 other villages with similar or even worse conditions but hey we are the second most populous country...We can distribute ourselves in these villages and do our own bit to empower the women. Our team pays regular visits and we impart knowledge on basic necessities like health and hygeine, sanitaion, demerits of child marriages etc.....We will do more, we will contribute more......dying to grow up !
The words scribbled on the wall....remain mere words!
Try Try until you succeed---- spreading awareness is a great contribution.

This lady has begged for 48 years of her life.....!

HA! Do you notice the young boys all happy and gay whislt the girl at the back hides her face and the one at the front stares in dismay :(

She does not want to marry....her parents won't listen.....the authorities stay idle and we are help and hapless

The girls in pink and yellow don't know their age...Sigh....lest ways they were married two years ago.

"Aadmi marega"....said she !

The day....millions like the above....will be well fed  well clad.....and well equipped with the tools of knowledge, awareness and education.....You and me shall celebrate the joy of being born as Humans...rather Girls!

L-RON ...!

If you are not persuing your dreams you are fuelling limitations

Let us revamp our nation !

If you are persuing your dream you are fuelling limitations !... Yes and our dream is to revamp our nation:)
.....It all started when me and my friends as girls started get anxious about what our life would be like next year in college. All of us would be going to the metro politan cities, and amidst the humdrum of the bustling city life, we wondered "How safe are women in India?".....Eveteasing-- are we supposed to ignore the desperate roadside romeos or fight back?...Ragging-- Are we supposed to succumb to the notorious seniors if they cross their limits or rebel?....Stalkers-- Are we supposed  to to just let them be or do something about them?.... Molestation-- Are we supposed to to be silent pain bearers like the million other Indian girls or speak out...?...Rapes-- Are we supposed to keep mum because of he fear of the society and the stigma  or fight for our rights...??......A thousand questio0ns of these kind intrigued our restless minds. We were scared, nervous...Why ?? Only because we belonged to the fairer sex in this masculine dominated society?.....Not very long ago I won the NATIONAL DEBATE COMPETITION--The topic was woman's lib is just a fib. I spoke voiceferously against the motion. Was I correct? Hell no! And believe me my conscience still priks me .. Yes, there are liberal women, financially, academically and socially sound, yet can you as a girl walk out wearing a halter and hot pant on a sultry day at delhi = the capital....without being disgusting-ly preyed on by the lusty eyes of the "some" not all yet vicious men like wolves drooling as they take pleasure of your bare flesh ?.....Sigh! Don't take me wrong, I am not commencing another slut walk movement, I respect my Indian culture and to a certain extent precaution is better than cure, do not give a readymade feast to those hungry sights of vision!......Female forticide-- As the world dipped in modernization soars high in the tide flourishes the practise of female foeticide!.....Dowry-- How many times do you find yourself gasping with shock when you read *A girl sets herself on fire due to dowry pressure??...Child marriages--Khap panchayat can handle this matter well-Lower the age of marital ban and the number of rapes will decrease. What an idea sirji!..I mean what are they a bunch of old, orthodox, illerate men who take pleasure in tormenting women by imposing all sorts of rules and regulations on them. These were some of the other issues we pondered ABOUT....
Ruminating about the plight of the world whilst nestling in our comfort zones is very very easy and delightful !...Every body can do that but hey we are not those 60 year old stewards of our nation who are paralised observers- we are the youth, we have zest, energy, enthusiasm...we have power and it is the need of the hour WE OUGHT TO ACT!....I am fulfilling my duty as a young citizen of India....I am spreading awareness...I want out to help me  share this blog, send me your views, spread awareness, be bold , be brave....Let us not yeild and succumb anymore...LET US REVAMP OUR NATION ! :)
